Welcome to Hooked on Walking Holidays and our fabulous walking holiday in Nova Scotia on the beautiful east coast of Canada. This particular hiking vacation in Nova Scotia has a number of easy to moderate walks but allows you plenty of time to visit the sites and sounds of this wonderful region. This tour is a fly-drive-walk program , which means on arrival to the local airport which is Halifax you rent a car and drive through the region taking the suggested walks. This allows you great flexibility as it allows you to use the car for other site seeing after each of the walks. We call this walking holiday the Seacoast to the Bay visiting the Atlantic coastline & Bay of Fundy
Some of the wonderful highlights of this Hiking tour are: North America's oldest operating lighthouse, viewed from a perfect crescent of white sand beach Trails  along the granite shoreline snake through the sparse beauty of a skeleton forest. Splendid old homes line the steep streets of Lunenburg, overlooking a colourful harbour rich in history. Tidal ponds on a centuries-old shore road play host to over one hundred species of birds, a favourite dining spot for the Osprey and Great Blue Heron. Resplendent old-growth hemlocks border a peaceful lake at Kejimkujik National Park; majestic whales breach the waters of the Bay of Fundy. Annapolis Royal's lush historic gardens and sea captains' mansions, stately tributes to a bygone era. Grand Pré, the soul of Acadie, immortalized in the haunting verses of Longfellow's 'Evangeline'.

Day 1 Arrival and overnight in or around Halifax
Day 2 Crystal beach and Lunenburg - 6 miles , 9.5 km
Today after a relaxing start your adventure begins with a picnic lunch on Crystal Crescent Beach, looking out at the oldest operating lighthouse in North America, The Sambro Light, you’ll walk this incredible granite shoreline, through a skeleton forest to Pennant Point. These granite shores, with rocks as large as houses dropped along the way, are a visible reminder of a shore carved by glaciation some 10,000 years ago. Then you travel to Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its magnificent collection of heritage homes, churches and stately municipal buildings that are clustered on steep streets overlooking the harbour. After dinner you’ll be entertained during a lamp-lit stroll through the history and tales of Lunenburg. Tonight you will stay at the historic Kaulbach House Inn
Walk up to 9.5 km or 6 miles, drive up to 2½ hours
Day 3 Hike to Gaff Point and Miller Point Peace Park 5 miles 8 km
This morning you’ll hike out to Gaff Point and savour the sand between our toes on a great stretch of isolated white beach, Hirtle Beach. Gaff Point is the last undeveloped headland from Halifax to Kejimkujik Seaside Adjunct and has been purchased by the Nature Conservancy to ensure its natural state. After your picnic, walk at Miller Point Peace Park located on the LaHave River. Tonight enjoy the luxury and hospitality of White Point Beach Resort where you can enjoy the white sand beach, pool area and walking trails of this seaside resort.

Day 4 Kejimkujik Seaside National Park 9 km 6 miles
Today you’ll walk the trail to the stunningly beautiful coast of Kejimkujik Seaside Adjunct National Park. you will find that harbour seals are a common sight, basking in the sun on the rocks close to shore. The Seaside Adjunct is home to about 10 pairs of endangered piping plovers and is well known for its unique vegetation, dramatic rock formations, secluded coves, spectacular beaches and rare plant life. The wild roses, pitcher plants, beach peas and scented bayberry scatter the landscape of dense scrub alder and sheep laurel that dominate the coastal tundra-like vegetation. The trail end at the secluded St. Catherine’s River Beach with it’s white sands and turquoise water. After your lunch on the beach, return to White Point and enjoy some free time before dinner.

Day 5 Kejimkujik National Park 6 mikes 9 km
Today you’ll head inland and visit the Kejimkujik National Park, home to bear, deer, fox, coyote, bobcat, porcupine and the rare Blanding turtle. “Keji” also plays host to humans seeking a wilderness experience as you wander along some of its many nature trails. Walk through an old growth forest of 300 year old hemlocks to a peaceful lake and through a beech grove on a lazy river. You’ll then travel to the historic town of Annapolis Royal with its streets lined with sea captains’ mansions. Tonight you stay and dine at the elegant Hillsdale House Inn and stroll through their lovely gardens. There is also an optional, entertaining, Candlelight Graveyard Tour of the oldest English graveyard in Canada
Walk up to 9 km or 6 miles, drive up to 1 ½ hours
Day 6 Bay of Fundy Whale watching and short walk
An early morning drive down Digby Neck to discover the astounding Balancing Rock, perched on a ledge above the ocean, seemingly by a hair. This afternoon you’ll have the opportunity to take a thrilling whale watching cruise in the Bay of Fundy. A rich aquatic supermarket of plankton and herring combine, to attract high concentrations of finback, minke and humpback whales, as well as dolphins and porpoises. You may even see a rare right whale. For those who would prefer to keep their feet on dry land, there is the option to spend the afternoo n on a fascinating walk around Brier Island. Dine on the island and then return to the Hillsdale House.
Walk up to 3 km or 1½ miles, whale-watching up to 4 hours, drive up to 3 hours
Day 7 Walk and return to Halifax 4 miles 6 km
This morning you’ll explore the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens, or stroll along the boardwalk on the scenic waterfront. You can also visit Port Royal fort, the first permanent European settlement in North America, north of Florida (in 1605). After a picnic lunch, continue to Wolfville and walk along the historic dykes first created by the Acadians in the 17th century. These dykes lead you to Grand Pré National Park, the site of the deportation of Acadians in 1755, immortalized by Longfellow’s epic poem “Evangeline”. Return to Halifax and the end of your adventure in the late afternoon

Day 8 Depart after breakfast or maybe continue to our Newfoundland walking holiday.
Difficulty: Level 1 Walks of between 2-4 hours.
