At Hooked on Walking Holidays we have developed what we think to be the most comprehensive list of walking holidays in Spain. Spain is often a wonderful location for walking, fabulous climate for many months, varied landscapes from barren hills to green forest mountains, interesting culture and history dating back centuries and its own style of food and cuisine. The interior of Spain is often not reached by tourists allowing you as a walking to see the true Spain that is not possible by sitting on a beach in the Costa’s, you will have a great experience and many tales to tell.

Andalusia Guided walking and Culture holiday ( level 1-2 )

A wonderful 7 night guided walking holiday in Andalucia. This very special tour has three easy to medium walks and three fabulous city visits to absorb the culture of the region. Granada , Cordoba and Montefrio. Visit the stunning Alhambra Palace and the many Moorish delights.

Pearl of the Balearics (Level 2-3 )

A 7 night self guided walking holiday on Majorca. This particular hiking vacation on Mallorca will take you across the wonderful mountain range of the Sierra de Tramuntana in the northwest of Majorca. The north west coast of Mallorca is a surprisingly beautiful and quiet area, separated from the popular ‘playas’ by a whimsical limestone mountain range, the Sierra dWalking holiday in Spaine Tramuntana. During this trip you walk from one picturesque village to another, along coastal cliffs and idyllic beaches or right through the mountains, crossing vast private estates with orange, almond and olive trees.

The Hidden Costa Blanca ( Level 2-3 )

This 7 night self guided hiking vacation is in a region just inland from what is known as the Costa Blanca. This is a true hidden area of Spain allowing you to explore rural Spain at it best.  This is a seven night hotel-to-hotel trek. The first and last nights are spent in Callosa d’En Sarrià, market town and gateway to the inland Sierras of Aitana (1558m) Serrella (1379m) Aixortà (1218m) and Bernia (1129m)
This tour takes you through some of the most stunning scenery on the Costa Blanca along ancient footpaths, forestry tracks and quiet country roads. It includes stays in whitewashed mountain villages that date from the Moorish occupation of Spain. This area is little visited so you will be exploring mostly "uncharted" terrain and are unlikely to meet many other walkers.

Sierra De Aracena - Andalusia 6 night level 2-3 self guided walking holiday
The  Sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche is the second largest Natural Park of Andalucía (declared a Natural Park in 1989 and recently awarded the European Charter for Sustainable tourism), lying in the north of Huelva province, which in turn is the most westerly province of Andalucía, not far indeed from the Portuguese border. With only 40,000 inhabitants scattered over its 3.000 squarHiking vacation in Spaine kilometres it is probably one of the least known and visited of all the parks in Andalucia and you’ll be surprised by the lush vegetation almost all year round, the profusion of wild flowers through the spring months and wild mushrooms, rainfall and weather dependent, found in masses given the right conditions in autumn.

You will walk inland through the Aiguamolls Nature Reserve where innumerable seabirds and songbirds have settled. You will walk up mountain trails offering spectacular views sweeping far into the Pyrenees. Asturias- Green Spain7 night self guided walking tour ( level 2-3 tour )
For the average Spaniard "Asturias" means rural, friendly, green, tasty and authentic. A great place to relax, walk, cycle or swim and enjoy fresh products, straight from the garden, mountain meadows or the sea. Thanks to a relatively mild and humid climate, temperatures are pleasant, even in the height of summer, and the landscape is green year round. Rural Asturias is a patchwork landscape of walled pastures, dense forests and farming villages, bordered by a magnificent coastline to the north and steep limestone massifs to the south. St James Way 7 and 14 Night independent walking holiday on the Saint James Way( level 2-3 )

The ultimate pilgrim route along the Saint James Way or the Camino De Santiago. This walk takes you through the hills , mountains and valleys of Northern to the fabulous city of Santiago following the route that thousands of Pilgrims gave done over centuries.

PICOS DE EUROPA 8 7 night walking holiday in the Picos Mountains ( Level 2-3  Tour )

The Picos de Europa are without a doubt the most impressive mountains of Spain emerging from a coastal landscape as a natural frontier between the green north of Spain and the more arid Castille. The heart of the Picos is formed by three whimsical limestone massifs, that aren’t easily crossed on foot or by car (luggage transport). We have therefore designed two different walking trips and 7 and 11 night trip. .One relatively inexpensive 8-day trip during which you’ll stay on the north side doing easy or more difficult day walks around the Eastern and Central massifs, including an ascent to a mountain hut at the foot of the famous Picu Urriellu In this depopulated region, with a completely different landscape of conglomerate rock, bears and wolves try hard to survive.

PICOS DE EUROPA 12 11 night walking holiday in the Picos Mountains ( Level 2 - 3 Tour )

The Picos de Europa are without a doubt the most impressive mountains of Spain emerging from a coastal landscape as a natural frontier between the green north of Spain and the more arid Castille. The heart of the Picos is formed by three whimsical limestone massifs, that aren’t easily crossed on foot or by car (luggage transport). We have therefore designed two different walking trips. During the our 12-day hiking trip you actually cross the Picos from north toPyrenees in Spain - hiking vacation south and back again, and also spend 2 days in the Cantabrian mountains on the south side of Picos. In this depopulated region, with a completely different landscape of conglomerate rock, bears and wolves try hard to survive.

Andalusia Delights 7 night self guided walking holiday level 1-2

On this tour apart from 5 wonderful walks you will have the chance to spend time in Granada and visit the historic city, old town and Alhambra Palace. This tour is available as a self guided walking tour. You will be based in Alhama de Granada an ancient Moorish settlement situated half way between Granada and Malaga in the Poniente Granadino region of Granada. Surrounded by picturesque mountains and lakes, and built on the edge of a huge gorge, Alhama has many traditional bars and restaurants and is the perfect base for your walking holiday

 

Andalusia ( Andalucia ) Grazalema 7 night independent walking tour in Andalusia ( Level 2 - 3 Tour )Six days hiking through spectacular scenery between the provinces of Malaga and Cadiz, covering rugged mountains and forests unique in Europe, while the sun shines down like God’s fingers through magical broken cloud. Not in vain might Grazalema mean "farmstead of peace". On this journey you will discover a hidden corner of our world, home to silence and serenity. You will see the famous "Pinsapo" (Spanish Fir tree) forests, covering the hills or clinging to mountainsides - a species unique to this area, descendent of the central European pines that arrived here in the glacial era. That is not all. You will also see Holm-oak, cork, blackthorn, gall-oak and carob and depending on the season, gorse, thyme, lavender, salvia, peony, mountain clove or "Grazalema poppy" (unique to this reserve) in flower

CATALONIA ( Catalunya ) 7 night walking holiday in Catalonia ( Level 2- 3 Tour )
Near the metropolis of Barcelona, we have designed this walking tour through very old and typical Catalan countryside. A truly varied landscape with canyons, Mediterranean forest and open fields, scattered with intimate historical monuments and nice little towns. A special feature of this trip is the accommodation in historic farmhouses from the 11th, 15th and 18th centuries

Ordesa National Park in the Pyrenees 6 night self guided walking tour ( level 2-3 )
The Ordesa & Monte Perdido National Park is one of the most impressive protected mountain areas of Europe, with high glacier valleys, deep canyons and large forests showing amazing colours in autumn. During this trip you will first discover the area around the village of Torla during several high and low walks, right through the valley of Ordesa or high up to the French border near Bujaruelo. Then you’ll drive to the southern part of the Park and spend two daysWalking holiday in the Picos at Nerín, walking up to and through the high summer pastures above the Añisclo Gorge. All the walks are well marked and easy to follow, and offer a real alpine hiking experience for people of all ages.

The Sierra de Guara is one of the most depopulated regions of Spain, in which life seems to have come to a halt at some time in the past. Vast woodlands, endless plains, deep canyons, lovely vineyards and authentic villages like Alquézar, perched on a rocky cliff above the Río Vero Gorge. During this trip, you first discover the rich culture of the Somontano wine-producing region, then you explore open countryside in more remote areas. La Gomera, the greenest of the Canary Islands. It lies just 30 kilometres from the coast of Tenerife, at the edge of a enormous shelf in the Atlantic Ocean. Steep cliffs along the rocky coastline give way to volcanic peaks inland. Deep gorges, or barrancos, limit access to many parts of the island and tourism here is still in its early stages.

Menorca is the greenest and most authentic of the Balearic Islands and the perfect place to get acquainted with the true beauty of life in the Mediterranean: deep blue bays, white sand beaches, spectacular cliffs, rolling hills, quiet farmland, historical towns, and ports full of tiny boats and seafood restaurants. You’ll follow the Camí dels Cavalls, a horsemen’s trail established by English settlers in the 18th century, which has recently been way-marked as a GR long-distance walking path. Your trip begins and ends in the capital of Mahón (also spelled Maó), a convenient base for easy travel to Menorca.
