Welcome to Hooked on Walking holidays and our walking holidays in Andalusia. This hiking vacation in Andalucia has its base is based in the Lecrin Valley, ideally situated between Granada, the Alpujarras walking district, the Sierra Nevada ski resort and the Costa Tropical. Thanks to the natural and cultural diversity of the region, you can enjoy unlimited variations of what rural Spain has to offer. This walking tour is a fly drive hike arrangement , you can pick up your rental car in Granada or Malaga airports and you will have the choice of staying in a typical white village house in the valley or a lovely rural Spanish Hotel. It’s a region of historic white villages with a distinctive Arabic influence scattered amongst dramatic hills and mountains, and where grape vines, mango trees and kiwi fruits thrive alongside ancient olive and almond groves. Wherever you walk you’ll love the flora, fauna, architecture, spectacular scenery, history and the warm welcoming people of this corner of Andalucia. The rural houses & villas are situated in province of Granada. Each house has been furnished and decorated with care and are located in typical Spanish villages. The region is well known for the cultivation of citrus-, olive- and almond trees. This green oasis creates a peaceful environment of undisturbed nature with its colourful diversity of oranges, lemons, mandarins and olives. Small streams and irrigation channels flow gently through the valley and end up in the "embalse" lake. Granada city and the famous Alhambra Palace are only 30 kilometers away, the Costa Tropical can be reached within 25 minutes by car. In the Lecrin Valley you find water- and olive mills from the XV century which where highly important for the economic development of the valley. Also the turbulent history has lead to a variety of Moorish and Roman monuments, which are worth visiting.
We have selected some beautiful walking itineraries. You can walk in the mountains of the Sierra Nevada, passing white washed villages of the Alpujarras, hear natural streams flowing, and catch the scent of fresh herbs and flowers. You will encounter small farms, meeting a Spanish local with his mule and many things more that represent rural Spain. Below are a couple of examples
Available on Saturdays throughout the year.

In case you stay in a 2 star hotel, our local representative will meet you at 10am the following morning, to welcome you and discuss the walking week.
Day 2 Sunday – introduction of walking week Restabal- 3 to 4 hours from 540m to 704m to 540mAfter the discussion of the weeks walking with your local representative (2 star hotel), you start an introductory walk from the Roman bridge of Restabal. You walk through orange- and almond groves to the town of Murchas, a quiet rural village. After that, you continue upwards to Talara/Lecrin, the main village of the Lecrin Valley. You descend through the valley back to the river and bridge of Restabal, passing the town of Chite.
Day 3 Monday – The north of the Sierra Nevada Monachil- 2 to 3 hours from 825m to 1150m to 825m. Today you will walk on the north of the Sierra Nevada, across hanging bridges and besides the stream of the river Monachil, through a spectacular narrow gorge. After you warmed up, the gorge will open and a nice pick nick spot comes up. Now, the scenery changes as you rise above this gorge and look back to Granada city in the distance. At the end of the walk you encounter some “eras” where the locals used to separate the grain of the chaff.
Day 4 Tuesday- The pure treasure of the Alpujarras Pampaneira- 5 hours from 1055m to 1430m to 1055m Today something totally different. You will walk on the other side of the Sierra Nevada, the beautiful Alpujarras. This area is well known for its Moorish architecture. You cross the river Poquiera and walk up towards the opposite side of Capileira, with stunning views to the peak “Veleta” (the other side is used in the winter season for skiing) Capileira is great for a “lunch stop” and needs o be explored. From here you will start descending towards Bubion, the 3rd Berber style village of the Alpujarras.
Day 5 Wednesday – Relax in Granada capital/visit Alhambra This is your perfect day to relax and visit Granada with its famous Alhambra. Make sure though, you book your tickets upfront for this magnificent monument.
Day 6 Thursday – The west side of the Lecrin Valley/Albunuelas- 5 hours from 540m to 700m to 540m Back in the Valley, you hike up towards the remains of a Moorish castle, and continue though the lush pine tree hills filled with agricultural plots of olive –and almond groves towards Saleres. You will see this lovely town beneath and later pass through it on the way back. The path changes from dirt tracks to cemented roads a couple of times. After 2 hours, you start descending towards Albunuelas. Passing through this lovely town, the cobbled- and crooked streets, fountains and local village life represents pure Andalucia. In this town you meet the GR7 footpath which will take you back to Restabal,
Day 7 Friday – Fuente de Hervidero/ up from La Zubia- 4 to 5 hours from 1300m to 1750m to 1300m Driving towards Granada, passing the La Zubia village, you park at the Fuente de Hervidero. Walking up, you will soon hit the smaller path down towards the Dilar river. From a distance, at the “Mirador” (viewing point) you can see a small waterfall and head on into a secluded area with only nature at sight. Now it is time to start climbing for an hour, so take a good breath. Reaching the highest point of the walk, there is a possibility to step of the path and use this peak as a scenic overview of the walk. After that you walk through the “Arenales” (sandy area) back to the starting point.
Day 8 Saturday- departure- short walk/Castillo de Mondujar 1 to 2 hours from 740m to 948m to 740m Checking out from your accommodation and before heading back to the airport, there might be enough time left to do a short walk from Mondujar towards the Castillo de Mondujar. From the church you walk upwards, under the motorway to the Sierra de Mondujar. From the cemented path you have to cross an olive grove (on your right), and meet a small gorge where you see an old settlement type of wall. Follow the path upwards to the ruin of the castle, with a black cross on top of it. The views towards the Lecrin Valley are great! Return back to the path you came from and descend a little before you start ascending again. This path leads you around the Sierra de Mondujar back to the village.
