At Hooked on Walking holidays we are very proud to have developed a walking holiday in the heart of the Slovenian Alps. Our walking holiday in Slovenia is very scenic with wonderful panoramic views in which our walking holiday will take you through some wonderful valleys to show you the best of these. Our trekking holiday in Slovenia is ideal for anyone with some experience in walking and hiking in Alpine regions but in general is mostly on wider tracks. One day of our walking holiday is over rougher terrain and must be guided. Our hiking holiday in Slovenia is available as an independent walking tour.
Independent trip is available May to September Level 2-3 self guided tour
Arrive Crna na Koroskem for first night and your information meeting about the tour and region. The Slovenian Alps seem to be different to other mountain ranges , they glisten in the light as they are made of white limestone. Your walking tour has been designed in a very remote region with fabulous panoramic views each day. Your tour starts walking between isolated farms in Savinjske Alps . Then onto the Logarski Valley which is known as one of the most beautiful Glacial valleys. Jezersko means “ place with the lake “ . When the glacier melted after the last Ice Age a large lake was formed which remains to this day. From here you walk to the world famous Bled and its lake with an old church on an island in the middle. Why not stay as extra nights in Bled where you can have time in the town or explore with a further walk.
Day 1: Arrival into Klagenfurt, Ljubljana, Graz or Maribor airports and transfer to Jamnica You can either arrange a private transfer or take the train to the nearby town of Bleiburg where we can pick you up free and take you to your first nights accommodation in Jamnica. Here you will have your introduction meeting with details about the walking tour. Halfboard: farm Tourism.
Day 2 Jamnica to Crna na Koreskem Today a beautiful walk into the Alps. Today is a good warm up walk. Walking 12 miles 19.5km Basic Hotel Halfboard
Day 3: ČCrna – Bistra - Raduha
The mountains of Carinthia where our tour start are significant for the whiteness of their sun-lit rocks and the softness of the hill – slides. The peaks are therefore offering relaxing views of the quiet valleys, the dark green of the vast woods and the fleeting sparks of water drops. Highlights: beautiful view from the highest farm (1,327 metres) in Slovenia Walking: 11 miles 18 km, + 890m , Halfboard: Mt. Hut (1.460m)
Day 4: Raduha – Olševa – Pavličcevo sedlo
The Solčava district lies at the most upper end of the Savinja river, surrounded by high mountains. These highlands and valleys have a rather marked Alpine climate. The vegetation hereabouts is adapted to relief and climatic conditions. Lower slopes are covered by forest, mostly spruce and beech, but also here and there with fir, pine and the larch which grows right up to the tree line; one can also find patches of dwarf pine growing above this line. The oldest traces of human habitation in this region reach back into the Paleolithic era. Bones belonging to Stone Age man and cave bear were discovered within the Potočka Zijalka Cave under the Olševa ridge. Highlights: Solčava mountain panoramic road is one of the most beautiful in Slovenian Alps Walking: 13 miles 21 km, + 280m , Halfboard: Farm tourism (1.100m)
Day 5: Pavličcevo sedlo – Jezersko
This day you will pass Austria and walk across two mountain passes to the mountain village of Zgornje Jezersko. Highlights: small mountain lake at Jezersko Walking: 11 miles , 18 km, + 650 m , Halfboard: small hotel
Day 6: Jezersko – Konšca ( Pr'Tičc)
From Jezersko you will walk across mountain pass to the Karavanke range. This part is one of the most difficult part on the whole tour. The hike across the mountain pastures Konšča shows us the way of life in the hills and leads us to a mountain farm »Pr' Tič. Today the route navigation is a little complex and the terrain high in the mountains so on the independent trip and also the guided trip you will have a mountain guide. Walking: 11 miles , 17 km, + 800 m , Halfboard: Farm tourism
Day 7 Pr'Tičc - Tržičc - Brezje
The first part of this day tour you will walk in the Dovžan Gorge which is situated in the heart of the Karavanke mountain range. Wild streams of the “Tržiška Bistrica” river have been excavating a deep gorge for centuries uncovering stones that bear witness to a long and interesting geological history. The path uncovers various stones and fossils from the ancient times – Palaeozoic – among which special attention should be placed to the spherical porous Schwagerina carniolica and to a series of Brachiopoda, first found in the Dovžan Gorge. At the end of the 19th century Baron Born ordered to build a tunnel which opened the hinterland of the Dovžan Gorge to the rest of the world. Before the tunnel was built the locals had crossed the river across a reed suspension bridge, often destroyed by deep water. That dangerous bridge was called »The Devil's Bridge«. Highlights: Dovžan Gorge, The Old Town Centre of Tržič, Museum of Tržič - exhibition Mammoth hunters Walking: 9 miles , 15 km, + 300 m , B&B Farm Tourism
