Welcome to Hooked on walking Holidays and our walking holiday in Slovakia. This hiking vacation in Slovakia is in the Slovakian paradise of the Natural Slovakia Raj. We have graded this walking tour as a level 2 tour. The Natural Park of Slovakia Raj (Slovak Paradise) is a jewel in the heart of Slovakia. Its mountains are full of waterfalls, river cascades, forests, gorges, canyons and much more. This walking holiday in Slovakia we propose will allow you to discover the splendours of a National Park that shelters bears, wolves, deer, otters, and chamois. Animals particularly protected under the dense forests of Slovakia Raj. You will stay in panzios and 3 star hotels during this hiking tour. The Slovak food is rather copious and the drinks are inexpensive. The months of July and August are not advisable because this is a privileged summer destination for the Slovaks and the park is highly occupied with tourists.
Please note that some sections of the tour have many technical passages on metallic or wooden ladders and is therefore not advised for people whom are afraid of heights.

Day 1 Arrive to Budapest in Hungary
Today arrive to Budapest for your overnight . We meet you at the airport and transfer you to your accommodation. Explore this wonderful city. Here our welcome meeting will take place and you will be briefed on your for coming hiking tour in Slovakia.
Day 2 – Transfer to Slovakia
Today you will board the train to Slovakia. The train will take you to Spisska Nova Ves where on arrival you will have a private transfer to Cingov and your hotel. The train journey is around 6 hours.
Day 3 – From Cingov to Podlesok by the Canyon on the river Horgar
This is a surprising itinerary where you are very often above the river. With a little chance, you will see one of the otters that live there. The path is actually impressive, it crosses several times the river on bridges made for the walkers. A detour will lead you to the most beautiful viewpoint of the whole park that figures on the postal cards that you will find around the park. You will walk along the Hornád Canyon, the symbol of the National Park. From the numerous canyons and gorges cut into the karst stone by the flowing water, the Prielom Hornádu is the only one through which visitors can pass in both directions. With an elevation of only 17 metres, the canyon is an easy, though adventurous walk; at spots, one can only pass on metal rungs fitted onto the vertical rock walls. Overnight at Podlesok

Day 4 – The Gorges of Sucha Bella
For this day, you will leave for the discovery of the finest gorge of Slovenski Raj. The waterfalls and impressive passages will be awaiting you. The stream bed will be the beginning of your hike before reaching the first wooden ladders that will allow you to climb more in the gorge. The waterfalls follow one another in a fantastic landscape and through worthy passages of an Indiana Jones movie! After the gorges, you will go through the ruins of the monastery of Klastirok, which is possible to visit. Overnight at Podlesok. Hiking time, about 4.25 hours. 9.5 miles 15 Km up 409m.
Day 5 – The Gorges of Stredne Piecky
Starting at Podlesok, you will take a very pleasant path following a river full of trout. Next, the road will lead you to the small hamlet of Pila from which you will start in the gorge. The beginning is very easy and follows the course of a stream. Soon you will walk between higher cliffs before arriving to an impressive viewpoint on the first ladder to ascend. From this moment, you will be in a very narrow gorge with carved tree trunks and wooden ladders that will allow you to advance above the water that descends the gorge. This is as impressive as enchanting! You will then descend back down surrounded by the pines until your hotel. Overnight at Podlesok. Hotel 3 stars with swimming pool. Overnight at Podlesok
Hiking time, about 4.25 hours 9.5 miles 15 Km up 407m.
Day 6 – Podlesok to Stratena 
This day does not present any special difficulties. It nevertheless allows you to cross the whole national park on foot on an itinerary following the curves of the hills. The forests of various perfumes succeed themselves and the colours are particularly beautiful in the spring and fall. You will cross some clearings, maybe will you have the chance to notice one of the numerous animals that populates the park but for that you will have to be very discreet. This pleasant walk will lead you to Podlesok, the departure point of the majority of the most beautiful hikes in the gorges. Overnight at Stratena . Hiking time, about 4 hours, 13.75 miles 22 kms. up 227m.
Day 7 Lake of Dedinky and Gorges of Zejmaska Roklina
For this first day of hiking, you will leave alongside a beautiful river towards the lake of Dedinky. You will cross the woods in order to rejoin the lake through a typical town where it is possible to relax in a bar by the water. Next, you will climb back up towards the first gorge that will give you an idea of the ones that await you the following days. The ladders will allow you to attain the top of the gorge before going through the woods towards your panzio. The arrival at the town of Stratena offers you a splendid panorama on this charming mountain town and its surroundings. Your second night in Stratena. Hiking time, about 5 hours, 12.5 miles 20 Kms. up 484m
Day 8 – Departure
Today you take the train to Bratislava. You will arrive in the Slovakian capital at around 17:00
Difficulty: A Level 2 tour with walks around 4-5 hours but with some technical stretches climbing ladders through the Gorges
Accommodation: In panzio (family type hotel), 2 nights and 3 star hotels, 4 nights
